800 HP and V8 Roar in the Alps: Genesis Shows Mid-Engine Magma GT Supercar on Real Roads

Korean premium brand Genesis has demonstrated the Magma GT concept supercar in action on public roads for the first time. A running prototype joined the Tutto Bene Hillclimb on Mount Mottarone in Italy, navigating the winding mountain serpentines and offering a first listen to its new gasoline V8 under heavy load.

The concept made its public debut at the end of 2025 as the flagship of the new Magma performance lineup, and in the summer, the company revealed the finished interior and the Magma GT3 race variant.

Now the Korean automaker has disclosed the model’s key power spec. According to the official Genesis website, a twin-turbocharged gasoline V8 engine outputting up to 800 horsepower sits behind the two-seat cockpit.

Automotive social media pages attributed a 3.2-liter displacement to the engine, but that figure officially belongs to the powertrain of the Genesis GMR-001 hypercar racing in the WEC endurance championship. The manufacturer has not yet revealed the exact engine displacement for the road-going Magma GT, though the engineering ties to circuit race cars are obvious.

As noted by Car and Driver, the prototype features a classic mid-engine layout with a low center of gravity, aggressive aerodynamic elements, and a wider track for tackling sharp hairpins at speed.

Business Case and Production Prospects

Despite the dramatic run on the Alpine road, a production future for the car has not been finalized. A press release on the Genesis Newsroom emphasizes that public prototype demonstrations do not confirm an official assembly line launch.

Hyundai Motor Company head José Muñoz explained to Edmunds experts that the project must prove its market viability, as building a low-volume mid-engine supercar requires massive investments in a dedicated assembly line and composite materials.

Analysts point to 2027–2028 as potential target dates for a limited production run. If greenlit, the Magma GT would become the first true mid-engine supercar in the history of the Korean auto industry, capable of going head-to-head with Ferrari, McLaren, and top-tier versions of the Chevrolet Corvette.
