Astartes II Arrives in December — Games Workshop Drops New Teaser for Its Warhammer 40,000 Animation

Games Workshop has unveiled a new teaser for Astartes II and, for the first time, narrowed down the release window for one of the most anticipated animated projects set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The sequel to the original Astartes will arrive in December 2026 on Warhammer TV and will be available to Warhammer+ subscribers. The company has not yet revealed the exact premiere date.

In a new Warhammer Community post, the creators confirmed what the previous teaser had clearly hinted at: Astartes II will feature Deathwatch and Terminators. The clip shows storm bolters, a power fist, heavily armored Space Marines and grim corridors.

Games Workshop directly compares the mood of these shots to Space Hulk, but a full synopsis of Astartes II has not been published yet. So it’s too early to say the story definitely unfolds on a Space Hulk. The company only notes that the teaser shows at least three different characters and members of several Space Marine Chapters.

Astartes II Will Be Much Longer Than the Original

At the same time, Games Workshop confirmed that Astartes II will be noticeably longer than the first Astartes. The format of the project, however, remains unknown: the company hasn’t said whether it will be a single film or a story split into several episodes.

The sequel is being made by Warhammer Studio together with Syama Pedersen, the creator of the original Astartes. His independent fan project became hugely popular, after which Games Workshop brought him on to work on Warhammer officially.

The first Astartes II teaser came out on January 29, 2025, but at the time Games Workshop specifically warned that the footage shown was not taken from finished animation. The clip depicted the past of the characters in the upcoming story and left hints about its plot. The September teaser is already much closer to what viewers will see in the project itself.

The influence of the original Astartes has reached beyond animation as well. Saber Interactive creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick previously named Pedersen’s work as one of the key visual references for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. In particular, the developers looked to how Astartes conveys the weight of heavy armor, movement and, at the same time, a speed surprising for massive Space Marines.

Now the main unknown is the exact premiere date. Games Workshop confirms only December 2026, so a more precise date and additional plot details will likely be revealed closer to release.
