Audi Revives A2 Nameplate With A2 e-tron Compact EV: Up to 646 km of Range and Record Efficiency

Audi has officially unveiled the A2 e-tron compact hatchback, reviving the historic A2 nameplate more than twenty years after the original model went out of production. Designed for the European market, the new EV delivers up to 646 km of range on a single charge and starts at €38,200.

Four Powertrain Options and Record Aerodynamics

The rear-wheel-drive EV comes in four power outputs: 125 kW (170 hp), 140 kW (190 hp), 170 kW (231 hp), and a flagship 240 kW (326 hp) variant. The top-tier configuration delivers 545 Nm of torque, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and hits a top speed of 200 km/h, while other versions are electronically limited to 160 km/h.

The traction battery lineup, detailed in Audi’s official announcement, is split by cell chemistry:

• The entry-level 52 kWh and 61 kWh packs use affordable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells;
• The higher-capacity 84 kWh battery relies on nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry.

Equipped with the top battery, the 231-hp version achieves a record WLTP range of 646 km (the base model with the 52 kWh pack is rated for 423 km).

German engineers placed special emphasis on energy efficiency. Thanks to a streamlined body with a drag coefficient of 0.24 and the Efficiency package, the hatchback consumes just 12.8 kWh per 100 km, making the A2 e-tron the most efficient production EV in the brand’s history.

Fast Charging, MMI Interior, and Rollout Timeline

The 84 kWh battery supports DC fast charging at up to 183 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in 29 minutes. The EV supports V2L and V2H right out of the box, letting it power external household appliances or feed energy back into the home grid during peak tariff hours.

The interior architecture centers around a curved MMI display unit combining an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Luggage capacity ranges from 396 to 1,336 liters with the second row folded down.

According to Reuters, the launch of a relatively affordable city EV is intended to bolster the German premium brand’s position amid an influx of Chinese competitors. Order books open in Germany on September 10, with initial dealer deliveries scheduled for December 2026 at prices ranging from €38,200 to €51,200 for the top trim.
