Bandai Unveils Smallest Color Tamagotchi Ever: A Ring-Sized Pet With a 0.56-Inch Screen

Japanese company Bandai has unveiled the Tamagotchi ring to celebrate the iconic franchise’s 30th anniversary — the first device in the lineup designed as a wearable finger ring. Measuring just 28 mm long, the gadget features a tiny 0.56-inch color LCD screen, a charging case, and the full suite of classic virtual pet mechanics.

Half the size of the original: Two years in development with 64 parts

The original keyfob Tamagotchi launched in Japan in November 1996 with a body length of around 50 mm. The new device shrinks down to 28×23 mm — just 56% of the original size.

According to an official Bandai press release, engineering such a compact circuit board took two years:

• Minimal components: The design uses only 64 parts (52 electronic components and 12 plastic pieces), compared to 116 in current color models from the Paradise series;
• Ergonomics: It retains the iconic egg shape, but moves the three classic control buttons to the sides of the case;
• Power management: Optimized power protection circuits freed up internal space inside the tiny chassis for the display and processor.

The device is not a health-tracking smart ring — it lacks a heart rate sensor or pedometer. Instead, it is a fully functional virtual pet toy in a microscopic form factor.

Charging case and 30 characters

The Tamagotchi ring is the brand’s first device to ship with a wireless charging case. To avoid cluttering the ring with physical ports, the built-in battery recharges simply by placing the ring inside a small case.

Despite the display size, its features match those of full-sized versions:

• pets must be fed, washed, cured when sick, and put to sleep;
• includes a virtual treat delivery mechanic called Tama Delivery;
• features mini-games and room interior customization.

According to the official Tamagotchi website, depending on how well you care for your virtual companion, it can evolve into more than 30 different characters, including fan favorites across generations like Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, and Memetchi, along with secret evolutions.

Three finishes and high demand

According to tech outlet ITmedia, the ring will be available in three color options:

• Pink & Pearl White;
• Light Blue & Metallic Gold;
• Black & Metallic Silver.

The package includes interchangeable sizing inserts for Japanese finger sizes 10 and 14. The age rating is set at 15+, highlighting its target audience of nostalgic adults.

The device is priced in Japan at 7,700 yen (about $50). Due to high pre-order demand, the initial batch scheduled for delivery in February 2027 sold out within hours, prompting Bandai to open a second round of pre-orders shipping in April 2027. The company has not yet announced plans for an international release outside Japan.
