Bill Skarsgård to Star in Hideo Kojima’s Spy Action Game PHYSINT

During the Xbox showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2026, Kojima Productions revealed the lead actor for its ambitious spy action game PHYSINT. Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård, best known for playing Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the It duology as well as roles in Barbarian and John Wick: Chapter 4, will portray the central character.

A New Cold War and a Star-Studded Cast

The collaboration was far from spontaneous. According to Hideo Kojima, both creatives have followed each other’s work for years. Costume fittings, 3D face scans, and early camera tests with the actor took place earlier this year.

Alongside the reveal, the studio debuted a new poster bearing the tagline “The Next Cold War Begins.” As reported by Gematsu, the artwork features Skarsgård alongside Australian actress Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga).

The developers previously confirmed that South Korean action star Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan) and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One) have also joined the cast. Specific story details and character motivations remain under wraps.

A New Publisher and a Return to Kojima’s Roots

For Kojima, PHYSINT marks a return to the action-espionage genre he popularized with the Metal Gear series. The Japanese game designer calls the upcoming title the culmination of his 40-year career in the gaming industry, promising to combine cutting-edge technology with deep cinematic storytelling.

The project has also drawn attention for its behind-the-scenes drama. PHYSINT was originally planned as a PlayStation-backed exclusive, but Sony abruptly pulled the plug in the summer of 2026, prompting Microsoft to step in and secure publishing rights. Now backed by Xbox, the game marks Kojima’s second collaboration with the US company alongside the horror title OD.

The title still lacks a release window and a confirmed list of platforms. Since it remains in early pre-production, players should not expect the espionage blockbuster to arrive before the end of the decade.
