GeForce RTX 60 May Slip to 2028 — AMD’s AT2 Could Be the Only New GPU in 2027

Gaming PC upgrades could be in for a long wait. According to hardware insiders, NVIDIA has no plans to launch its next generation of GeForce RTX 60 graphics cards in 2027. AMD’s AT2 chip may be the only major release in the discrete graphics market next season, and the consumer Rubin architecture won’t reach gamers until 2028.

What insiders are saying

During a discussion on the AnandTech forums, well-known leaker Kepler_L2 said that only one new GPU will see the light of day in 2027 — AMD’s AT2, which leaks tie to the next generation of Radeon and the RDNA 5 architecture. Development of all other consumer products from AMD and NVIDIA has been pushed to 2028.

The insider gave no specific reasons for the schedule shift, but the scenario makes sense given the changing priorities of the semiconductor giants.

Memory shortage and the AI focus

As The Information reported earlier, NVIDIA is facing a potential shortage of next-gen video memory and has been forced to redistribute TSMC production quotas in favor of its highly profitable AI accelerators. According to the outlet’s journalists, it was this component shortage that led the company to delay its internal Kicker project — the likely refresh of the RTX 50 Super lineup — so as not to spend scarce capacity on the consumer segment.

Rubin’s status and conflicting reports

The fresh Kepler_L2 leak directly contradicts earlier forecasts. Earlier this year, another well-regarded source, kopite7kimi, claimed that gaming GPUs in the GR20x family would debut in the second half of 2027.

NVIDIA has officially confirmed the existence of the Rubin architecture only for the corporate segment: shipments of Vera Rubin AI servers to partners begin in the second half of 2026. Company executives have never said that this platform will be the basis for future RTX 6090 cards or any other gaming GPUs.

The current GeForce RTX 50 (Blackwell) generation hasn’t even hit the market yet, so any talk about the layout, pricing or launch dates of the RTX 60 series remains unconfirmed rumor. But if the forecasts of canceled releases pan out, 2027 will be an unusually quiet year for discrete graphics makers.
