Universal Pictures has officially set the home release date for Christopher Nolan’s epic historical drama The Odyssey. According to Variety, the film will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms, as well as on physical media including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 17, 2026 — exactly four months after its theatrical debut.

According to Forbes, the studio maintained a strict 123-day exclusive theatrical window, matching the distribution strategy used for the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.

An R-Rated Record-Breaker and Nolan’s Biggest Hit

By the time of the home release announcement, The Odyssey had already rewritten box office history. According to Box Office Mojo, the film’s global box office total reached $1.352 billion:

  • New global record: As noted by The Guardian, the blockbuster became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.338 billion);
  • Director’s personal best: The film surpassed The Dark Knight and Interstellar, becoming the highest-grossing project of Christopher Nolan’s career;
  • Box office breakdown: Domestic box office in North America generated over $516 million, while international markets added another $835 million (including a record $350 million from IMAX screens).

The film continues a wide theatrical run in over 3,000 theaters, holding an impressive 94% critics score and a 97% audience score on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

A Star-Studded Cast for an Ancient Epic

Matt Damon stars in the title role as Odysseus, King of Ithaca. For his large-scale adaptation of Homer’s epic, Nolan assembled one of the decade’s most stacked ensembles, featuring Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, and Mia Goth.

In true Nolan fashion, the 4K Blu-ray release will feature expanded aspect ratios for sequences shot on 70mm IMAX film cameras, along with hours of behind-the-scenes bonus features.
