“Daemons of the Shadow Realm” Gets a Second Season — Production on the Sequel Is Already Underway

The anime “Daemons of the Shadow Realm” (Yomi no Tsugai) is officially getting a second season. The sequel was announced right after the 24th and final episode of Season 1 aired on September 19, 2026.

Along with the announcement, the creators unveiled a first teaser and a new poster. A premiere date for Season 2 has not been announced yet, nor has the episode count.

The clip brings back Yuru, Asa, Left and Right, Gabu-chan, Dera and Hana. The creators also showed Ivan, who already clashed with the main characters in Season 1, and Misasagi — one of the key figures from the Western Village that is hunting the twins.

The creators have not yet said which part of the original manga the new episodes will adapt. The fact that Season 2 is in production was confirmed after the Season 1 finale.

Season 1 Ran for 24 Episodes

The anime premiered on April 4, 2026 and aired two cours back to back. The second cour began in July, and the final, 24th episode aired on September 19.

Bones Film handled production. Masahiro Ando, known for “Sword of the Stranger” and “Blame!”, directed Season 1. Noboru Takagi was in charge of series composition, and Nobuhiro Arai handled character design.

The project is being released by Square Enix, Aniplex and Bones — companies that previously worked together on the anime adaptations of “Fullmetal Alchemist.”

The series is based on the manga of the same name by Hiromu Arakawa, the author of “Fullmetal Alchemist.” Yomi no Tsugai has been serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan since December 2021, and the series’ total circulation has already topped 7.5 million copies, according to the anime’s official website.

The story follows twins Yuru and Asa, born as “divided by night and day.” After an attack on their isolated village, they are drawn into a conflict between several factions that use tsugai — mystical beings that exist in pairs and are bound to their masters.

So far, the creators have announced neither a production timeline for Season 2, nor an expected premiere window, nor an episode count. The teaser therefore confirms the direction of the sequel and the return of key characters rather than revealing specific details about the next part of the story.
