Chinese studio Game Science has released the first 15-minute gameplay video for the action RPG Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The second entry in the Black Myth anthology focuses on the legendary demon hunter Zhong Kui, featuring sword combat, parry mechanics, and Taoist talisman magic.

The project is being developed as a standalone single-player action RPG and will launch on PC and current-gen consoles.

Zhong Kui’s Combat System: Swords, Parries, and Magic

The game’s story is based on Chinese folklore about the exorcist Zhong Kui, who commands ghosts and spirits. Unlike the Monkey King’s staff in Black Myth: Wukong, the protagonist fights with a blade, combining martial arts techniques, the element of fire, and enchanted paper scrolls.

According to Video Games Chronicle, the combat system has undergone changes, shifting focus to timely blocks, parries, and counterattacks. In the gameplay video, the developers showed battles against mythological monsters, dynamic boss phases, and cinematic finishers.

Unreal Engine 5 Graphics and Release Window

As reported by Wccftech, the footage was captured directly from a work-in-progress build running on Unreal Engine 5 in a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Game Science emphasized that the footage shows an early build of the game, so graphics, animations, and skill balance will continue to be polished. The developers have not yet announced an official release date for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, noting that production is still in its early stages.
