Hyundai has opened pre-orders for the futuristic electric sedan IONIQ V, designed specifically for the Chinese market. The new model combines a spacious business-class cabin, an advanced digital platform powered by the Snapdragon 8295 chip, driving assistance from Momenta, and integration of two leading Chinese AI models.

The model’s key selling point is its aggressive pricing: the base 540 Max version is priced at 119,900 yuan (about $16,800), the advanced 540 Max+ costs 129,900 yuan (about $18,200), and the long-range 650 Max+ variant will set you back 139,900 yuan ($19,600). Full sales are scheduled to begin in September.

Cyber Aesthetics and Toyota Camry Dimensions

In terms of exterior dimensions, the IONIQ V directly competes with classic D-segment sedans: the car is 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,470 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of a substantial 2,900 mm (+75 mm compared to the current Toyota Camry).

The exterior features a wedge-shaped “cyberpunk” design with a low hood line, a fastback roofline, flush door handles, frameless doors, and multi-section LED lighting with complex geometry.

27-Inch 4K Screen and LLM Integration from Baidu and ByteDance

The interior is focused on maximum digitalization. According to Chinese auto portal Autohome, the dashboard features a monolithic 27-inch 4K display, complemented by an augmented reality head-up display (HUD).

Computing and the onboard system are handled by the flagship automotive processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295. The software interface boasts an unprecedented combination of two large language models:

  • ERNIE from Baidu and Doubao from ByteDance (via the Volcano Engine platform);
  • The AI models handle contextual understanding of complex voice commands, natural dialogue, and personalized recommendations;
  • The cabin features a four-zone microphone system that accurately identifies which passenger is giving commands to the onboard computer.

CATL Batteries and L2+ Autopilot from Momenta

Driving safety is ensured by a driver assistance suite from Momenta. The sensor and algorithm package, rated at L2+, is adapted for dense Asian traffic and supports automatic lane changes on highways, navigation on city routes, and autonomous parking.

The technical package includes traction batteries from global leader CATL with capacities of 53.5 and 66.8 kWh, providing a range of up to 650 km on the CLTC cycle, and electric motors producing up to 168 kW (about 228 hp).

According to Hyundai’s press office, the IONIQ V sedan kicks off the brand’s ambitious five-year strategy in China, under which the company will release over 20 new fully electric and hybrid models.
