A month and a half after its theatrical premiere, the supernatural horror film Insidious: Out of the Further is now available to watch at home. As of October 6, 2026, the movie has appeared on overseas VOD services, including Apple TV, Prime Video and Fandango at Home, according to Sony Pictures’ official website. The release once again proved the durability of Jason Blum’s proven horror formula: the film has grossed nearly ten times its production budget.

The sixth installment opened in theaters on August 21 and bet on a new generation of characters. The story centers on a new family: young mother Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, is raising her daughter in her childhood home when she unexpectedly discovers she can enter the Further. The main danger of her anomaly is that she can not only leave reality herself but also accidentally drag nightmarish entities from the Further back into the physical world.

Series veteran Lin Shaye returned as the familiar medium Elise Rainier. Jacob Chase (Come Play) took the director’s chair, while franchise founders James Wan, Leigh Whannell and Oren Peli once again handled the script and producing duties.

Audience Scores and Phenomenal Returns

The press met the film without much enthusiasm, but was fairly favorable for a horror sequel with a six-digit number in its title. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 57% critics’ score based on 136 reviews and a 68% audience rating. Reviewers criticize the filmmakers for derivative jump scares and predictable plot twists, but praise the oppressive atmosphere of the otherworldly locations and the inventive sound work.

Still, the lukewarm reviews did nothing to stop the financial triumph. On a modest $18 million budget, the film has grossed $169.5 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. That result is nearly on par with other successful installments in the franchise, such as Insidious: Chapter 3 ($189.1 million) and The Last Key ($172.8 million).

The franchise’s cumulative box office passed the $740 million mark long ago, making Insidious one of Sony Pictures’ most reliable assets. The film is now available for purchase and online rental, and the studio will reveal later when it arrives on the base catalogs of subscription streaming services.
