James Webb Telescope Captures Most Detailed Image of Lion Nebula

The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a detailed image of planetary nebula NGC 2392, known as the Lion Nebula. Due to the complex structure of ejected gas and dust layers, the object visually resembles a cosmic brain, and the high-resolution image was published on NASA’s official website.
The shot was obtained using a combination of the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). At the center of NGC 2392 lie the remnants of a dying star: in the final stage of its life, it shed its outer shells of gas and dust, exposing its core and turning into a white dwarf.

Intense radiation from the central white dwarf illuminates the expanding gas structures surrounding it. According to astronomers’ calculations, the material around the star continues to expand rapidly, and in about 10,000 years, the Lion Nebula will completely dissipate in interstellar space.
