MediaTek Unveils 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro Chip: 4.55 GHz Clock Speed, LPDDR6 Support, and On-Device AI

MediaTek has officially announced its flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro mobile processor, making it the Taiwanese chipmaker’s first chip built on TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer process. Designed for premium Android smartphones, the platform features an all-big-core architecture with no weak efficiency cores, support for high-speed LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage, and the ability to run AI models with up to 30 billion parameters directly on the device.

2+3+3 Architecture and Clock Speeds Up to 4.55 GHz

Instead of the traditional division into performance and efficiency cores, MediaTek continues to build on its All-Big-Core design. The CPU block combines eight performance cores in a 2+3+3 configuration:

  • Two C2-Ultra prime cores clocked at up to 4.55 GHz;
  • Three C2-Pro performance cores running at 4.35 GHz;
  • Three optimized C2-Pro cores operating at 3.1 GHz.

According to MediaTek’s press release, single-threaded performance increased by 17% and multi-threaded performance by 15% compared to the 9400 generation. At the same time, the shift to the 2nm process reduced peak load power consumption down to 61%, according to internal engineering tests.

The G2-Ultra NX GPU delivers a 27% increase in peak performance, an 18% speedup in hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and support for refresh rates up to 185 frames per second in mobile games.

On-Device Agentic AI and 4K Video at 240 fps

The platform places a strong emphasis on autonomous AI agents. The dual-core NPU 1090 with the Agentic AI Engine cuts initial prompt processing time by 51% and boosts token generation speed by 55%. The processor is optimized to run large language models with up to 30 billion parameters locally without relying on the cloud.

The built-in Imagiq 1290 image signal processor supports super slow-motion 4K video recording at 240 frames per second, 4K/120 fps Log recording, and AI-powered hardware HDR frame calibration.

Alongside the flagship, MediaTek introduced a sub-flagship Dimensity 9600M built on a 3-nanometer process. According to Reuters, flagship smartphone lines from Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo will be the first to adopt the 2nm chips, with devices expected to hit store shelves by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
