New Marvel’s Wolverine Trailer Shows Progression, Costumes, and Brutal Combat — Launching September 15

Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have released a detailed gameplay overview trailer for the superhero action game Marvel’s Wolverine. The developers revealed the key gameplay systems of the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive: three stages of rage buildup, claw customization, dozens of comic-inspired costumes, and a New Game+ mode available at launch.

Aggressive Combat, Special Moves, and Dismemberment

The game’s combat system revolves around constant pressure on enemies. In battle, Logan combines adamantium claws, kicks, counters, and finishers. Players can assign up to four active Special Techniques at once — such as the spinning lunge Tornado Spin, the crushing Knee Breaker, or the rising Spiral Strike.

To fine-tune your fighting style, the game introduces an Adaptations modifier system:

  • increased armor penetration and resistance to gunshot wounds;
  • a larger window for perfect parries;
  • enhanced intimidation effect on enemies during critical takedowns.

Unlike the friendly Marvel’s Spider-Man series, the project was designed from the start for a mature audience. According to the ESRB rating page, the action game received an Mature 17+ rating for blood and gore, dismemberment, strong language, and violence.

Three-Tier Rage Meter and Regeneration

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Rage meter is divided into three tiers:

  1. Initial tiers: reduce incoming damage and increase health regeneration speed;
  2. Maximum tier: activates an unstoppable berserker mode with instant lethal strikes;
  3. Critical factor: when taking a fatal blow, Wolverine can instantly burn accumulated rage for emergency regeneration and continue fighting without a reload screen.

Classic Costumes and Claw Types

Containers with resources for crafting alternative outfits are scattered across the game world. Insomniac confirmed the appearance of iconic costumes from various Marvel eras:

  • the experimental Weapon X look;
  • the post-apocalyptic Old Man Logan;
  • a costume from the Ultimate Wolverine line;
  • the eyepatch-and-tuxedo Patch;
  • classic yellow-and-blue and brown suits, as well as cinematic leather jackets.

Most costumes allow you to remove masks or change headgear. Additionally, the claws themselves are customizable — players can choose bone, serrated, curved, or chrome blades.

Story Antagonists and Activities

The story revolves around industrialist Bolivar Trask’s conspiracy against the mutant race. Traveling across different regions of the world with Jean Grey and former Team X comrades, Logan will face dangerous mercenaries, including Omega Red and Lady Deathstrike.

Hidden in open zones are Nightmare Doors challenge gates, as well as collectible whiskey bottles that unlock forgotten fragments of the hero’s memories.

Launch and Post-Release Support

According to the official PlayStation StoreMarvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe edition costs $79.99.

New Game+, mission replay, and over 100 expanded accessibility settings will be available on day one, with a dedicated photo mode arriving via a day-one patch.
