Huawei Pura X View Detects Grip and Automatically Moves Interface Under Your Thumb

Huawei has revealed how the adaptive control system works in its new wide smartphone, the Pura X View. Using grip recognition algorithms called Smart Grip, the device automatically detects which hand is holding it and dynamically moves the keyboard, on-screen buttons, and control widgets closer to the user’s thumb.

Dynamic adaptation without manual toggles

Unlike the classic one-handed mode, which shrinks the entire screen’s usable area and requires manual activation via gestures, the new system works in the background.

As shown by Android Authority, when you move the phone from your right hand to your left, the interface rearranges in about one second:

• The virtual keyboard automatically shifts toward the active edge of the display;
• Answer and decline buttons for incoming calls move closer to the thumb of the active hand;
• Navigation buttons in the music player, comment lists, shopping cart, and reaction buttons in apps adjust their position.

How Smart Grip works

According to Huawei support documentation, the technology, called 智感握姿 (Smart Grip), relies on a comprehensive poll of built-in sensors and operating system algorithms.

The mechanism first appeared in HarmonyOS 6, and in the updated version the platform supports more than 100 application scenarios (from the standard dialer and the proprietary video calling service Huawei MeeTime to third-party messengers and system calendars). The option also extends to foldable devices and flagship lines in the Mate, Pura, and nova series.

Unusual 16:9.5 screen and 6500 nits brightness

The need for automatic button adaptation stems from the phone’s unusual dimensions. According to official Huawei data, the model features a flat panel with an aspect ratio of 16:9.5, making the device significantly wider than standard tall slabs.

Display specifications:

• Resolution: 2232 × 1320 pixels;
• Peak brightness: up to 6500 nits in local areas;
• PWM dimming frequency: eye-safe 2160 Hz;
• Screen bezels: just 1.05 mm around the entire perimeter (the front panel’s usable area reaches 96.1%).

Thanks to the increased width, the effective display area when watching videos has grown by 16%, and in vertical content feeds, e-books, and office spreadsheets by 21%.

7000 mAh battery in a 6.68 mm body

Despite the large screen and built-in 7000 mAh battery, engineers managed to keep the body thickness at 6.68 mm (excluding the camera bump) and the weight at 201 g. The device runs on the proprietary HarmonyOS 7 platform.

As reported by IT Home, the Pura X View is offered in four color options with three memory configurations: 12/256 GB, 12/512 GB, and 12 GB/1 TB. Pre-orders are already open in the domestic Chinese market, and the full premiere with retail pricing will take place on September 7, 2026.
