Red Foldable iPhone Ultra Renders Are Fake, Bloomberg Reports

Images of a foldable iPhone Ultra in a striking red finish, published by prominent leaker Evan Blass, do not reflect Apple‘s actual plans. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the source assets belong to China’s Xiaomi, and the first-generation foldable iPhone will launch exclusively in classic, understated colors.
The leaked photos caused a stir online, but a closer examination of the images revealed several discrepancies.
Interface Errors and Gurman’s Refutation
The shared renders depicted a foldable smartphone in white, dark gray, and deep red. As noted by AppleInsider, interface details exposed the lack of authenticity: the battery icon and status bar elements on the screen did not conform to iOS 27 system guidelines.
Top Apple insider Mark Gurman soon clarified the situation. According to MacRumors, the journalist stated directly that the images were leaked from Xiaomi promotional materials, and Apple has no plans for a red or green iPhone Ultra.
Similarity to Xiaomi 18 Fold and Real Apple Colors
According to PhoneArena, the body geometry and burgundy shade in the leaked renders almost entirely match the design of the Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable flagship, hands-on photos of which recently surfaced online.
For its own first foldable device, Apple is preparing a more reserved color palette. Factory leaks indicate the new model will feature a titanium chassis in silver, light, and dark blue options, skipping vibrant colors for its debut generation.
The official unveiling of the smartphone lineup will take place at the “Surprise and shine” event at the Steve Jobs Theater on September 9, 2026, at 8:00 PM Kyiv time.
