Porsche has officially unveiled the 911 Challenge race car, based on the production 911 GT3 coupe (992.2 generation). Starting at €208,800, the rear-wheel-drive track car features a 515-hp naturally aspirated engine and will serve as the entry point for the brand’s one-make cup series starting in the 2027 season.
The model is designed specifically to provide drivers with a quick entry into professional customer motorsport.
Roll Cage and Driver Aids for Beginners
Engineers designed the race car to ensure its track behavior remains predictable for drivers without years of professional experience. The cockpit retains air conditioning, the steering wheel from the road-going GT3 RS, ABS, traction control, ESC, and the PTV Plus electronic differential lock, which can be adjusted on the fly.
The body and interior underwent extensive track preparation: the sound insulation, stock panels, and carpets were removed to install a welded-in roll cage, a racing bucket seat with six-point harnesses, a fire suppression system, built-in air jacks, and a safe 110-liter fuel tank.
Naturally Aspirated Flat-Six and PDK Transmission
The sports car is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine producing 515 hp at 8,500 rpm, with a redline of 9,000 rpm.
According to the official Porsche Motorsport division, power is sent to the rear axle via a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, which can operate in automatic mode or be controlled via paddle shifters. The track car’s dry weight is approximately 1,450 kg.
Racing Chassis and Pricing
The chassis features racing dampers, three-way adjustable anti-roll bars, and 18-inch wheels wrapped in racing slicks. The braking system, featuring 380 mm steel discs, is borrowed from the larger 911 GT4 R, while a four-way adjustable wing is mounted at the rear.
According to OneShift, the new model will replace the discontinued Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the brand’s racing hierarchy: 911 Challenge → 911 GT4 R → 911 Cup → 911 GT3 R.
The base European price for the Porsche 911 Challenge is set at €208,800 excluding local taxes, while in the US, the car is offered to 2027 season participants for $275,000. Once official cup teams are supplied, the sports car will become available to private customers for amateur track days and practice.
