Porsche Revives Iconic ‘Moby Dick’ Style with One-Off Flachbau RS

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch division has unveiled the one-of-a-kind Porsche Flachbau RS. Built as a unique commission for a private collector, the sports car is based on the 700-hp 911 GT2 RS (991.2 generation) and draws inspiration from the classic 935/78 “Moby Dick” race car.

The body design was developed by Grant Larson, lead stylist at Style Porsche. The main visual change is the slanted front end (“Flachbau”), which replaces the traditional round 911 headlights with compact triple LED units. The rear features a massive adjustable wing styled after the 911 GT3 R Rennsport, mounted 5 cm higher than stock. Combined with a front splitter, aerodynamic wheels, and a diffuser from Manthey, the bodykit generates up to 554 kg of downforce on the rear axle at 340 km/h.

Interior Weight Reduction with Street-Legal Status

According to Porsche, the 700-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine was left unchanged, with engineers focusing instead on handling and weight reduction. The car sheds 31.6 kg by removing the PCM infotainment system, audio equipment, some sound insulation, carpeting, and unneeded wiring harness components.

Despite these track-focused tweaks, the sports car remains fully street-legal. Developing the project took nearly three years of joint effort by Sonderwunsch, Porsche Motorsport, and Manthey. During fine-tuning tests, prototypes logged over 1,000 km on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, repeatedly completing full laps in under seven minutes.
