‘The Detective Is Already Dead’ Season 2 Premieres October 7: New Trailer and Sequel Details Revealed

Studio ENGI has released a new trailer for Season 2 of the mystery anime series The Detective Is Already Dead and confirmed its premiere date. The continuation will begin airing on Japanese television on October 7, 2026—five years after the conclusion of the debut season.

New Characters, Opening Theme, and Staff

The newly published video revealed additions to the cast and introduced the season’s theme songs. Joining the voice cast are Akari Komiyama as Mia Whitlock and renowned voice actor Nobuhiko Okamoto as Scarlet. The trailer also previews the main theme songs: the opening track “Kono Shinzo ni Hanataba wo” by singer Koume and the ending theme “Hakuchumu” performed by Kagura Nana.

The core production staff remains unchanged. Manabu Kurihara returns to direct the sequel, Deko Akao handles the script and series composition, Yosuke Ito designs the characters, and 40mP alongside Yuyu compose the soundtrack. The plot will continue adapting Nigojuu’s light novel series: detective assistant Kimihiko Kimizuka will keep navigating the complex legacy and secrets left behind following the tragic death of detective Siesta.

Delay Reasons and International Release Status

Season 2 was originally announced back in 2022 and scheduled for a July 2026 release. However, in the spring, the creators announced on the project’s official website that the schedule was pushed back to October due to production circumstances and the need for additional polishing of the episodes.

The October 7 date is now officially confirmed for the broadcast schedule on BS Nippon and several other Japanese stations. According to Crunchyroll, the exact simulcast schedule for Western streaming platforms will be announced closer to the start of the fall anime season.
