The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remaster Launches September 29 With New Combat, Progression and Expansions

On September 29, 2026, CD Projekt RED will release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. For the cult RPG, this is not just a routine patch with a resolution bump but a large-scale reimagining: the developers overhauled the graphics, reworked the combat system and completely changed character progression. Owners of the original game on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will get the upgrade entirely for free.

In addition, on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 the game will arrive as a separate native port, and on PC it will appear in the Battle.net store catalog for the first time.

Reworked combat and transmogrification

The studio has thoroughly modernized the visuals of the Continent. According to the game’s official website, the remaster reworks environment, character and monster textures, thickens vegetation, and introduces a realistic lighting system and full ray tracing.

Gameplay has also undergone a tough revision. The skill tree was redesigned from scratch — progression is now more flexible and has a greater impact on how you play. Geralt has new animations and varied finishers, and monster fights are now framed by an adaptive camera designed to make combat more dynamic and smoother. The list of systemic improvements includes a transmogrification system for freely customizing armor appearance, changed meditation mechanics, an expanded photo mode and official cross-platform support for user mods.

Expansions are now free for everyone

The remaster’s launch brings a major bonus for the whole community: both large story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now permanently included in the base game. No one will have to pay extra for them anymore.

As CD PROJEKT RED said in a press release, this rule even applies to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users. The visual remaster itself will not come to last-gen consoles due to technical limitations, but those players will still get free access to both DLCs.

You don’t have to start the adventure from scratch: old saves, cross-progression and achievements (trophies) you’ve already earned will be fully compatible with the updated version.

The current remaster is groundwork for further expansion of the universe. In 2027, the studio plans to release a completely new major campaign for The Witcher 3 called Songs of the Past, set in the uncharted region of Letten.
