Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to Return in Ryan Coogler’s ‘The X-Files’ Reboot

Actress Gillian Anderson has officially confirmed she’s ready to reprise her role as Agent Dana Scully in the reboot of “The X-Files.” The new project for Hulu is being developed by Ryan Coogler, director of “Black Panther” and “Creed.”

Anderson had previously said she had no plans to return to the franchise. However, during an appearance on the Today show, she admitted she changed her mind after learning who would be directing. According to her, Coogler’s approach will make the project progressive, and she will accept the invitation to take part in filming.

David Duchovny’s Role and Show Format

David Duchovny has also previously indicated he’s ready to play Fox Mulder again if Chris Carter and Gillian Anderson are involved. According to industry reports, Mulder and Scully will appear in the new series, but not as lead characters for the entire season. The actors will play seasoned consultants and mentors who pass cases on to a new generation of FBI agents.

Canon Continuity and Production

Original series creator Chris Carter emphasized that the reboot doesn’t erase the events of the previous 11 seasons but continues the story in the same universe. The series will introduce an updated roster of paranormal investigators.

The project is produced by 20th Television (owned by Disney). The pilot script is in its final polish stage, and the premiere will air on streaming services Hulu and Disney+.
