Fast & Furious Gets Its First Live-Action Series as Peacock Eyes 2028 Premiere

Peacock has officially ordered a live-action series set in the Fast & Furious universe. The project, first reported to be in development in the spring, has now been given a full green light, with the streamer targeting a 2028 premiere.

The title, plot and cast have not been revealed. So it is unclear whether Dominic Toretto will appear in the series and whether Vin Diesel will return on camera. For now, his involvement is confirmed only as an executive producer.

According to Variety, Universal Television is producing.

Vin Diesel will produce the series

Mike Daniels and Wolf Coleman have been tapped as showrunners. Daniels previously worked on Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue, while Coleman worked on Shades of Blue and 9-1-1: Lone Star.

The two will write the pilot together and serve as executive producers.

The producing team also includes Vin Diesel and Sam Vincent from One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.

Diesel first spoke about expanding the franchise to television in May at the NBCUniversal Upfront presentation. At the time, Peacock confirmed that the new series was in development.

The actor himself spoke of plans to create several shows in the Fast & Furious universe, but at that point only one project was officially confirmed.

The film franchise isn’t ending with the series

The new project does not mean Fast & Furious is moving entirely from the big screen to television. The series will be a separate story within the same universe, while the main film series continues in parallel.

It is also not formally the first series in the franchise’s history. From 2019 to 2021, Netflix released the animated Fast & Furious Spy Racers, which ran for six seasons. The new Peacock project will be the first major live-action series based on Fast & Furious.

It is also still unknown whether it will focus on familiar characters or introduce an entirely new group of characters.

2028 will be a big year for the franchise

Universal has scheduled the next feature film, Fast Forever, for the same year. Its premiere is set for March 17, 2028, and the film is meant to conclude the current main film saga.

Peacock intends to release the series around the same period, though there is no specific date, episode count or filming start date yet.

So in 2028, the Fast & Furious universe is set to expand into film and a live-action series at the same time for the first time – more than a quarter of a century after the first movie was released.
