‘Ted’ Returns: Peacock Announces Animated Series With Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane

Streaming service Peacock has unveiled the first teaser for Ted: The Animated Series, an animated follow-up to the comedy film duo Ted. The project is set to premiere on December 17, 2026. That day, the platform will release the first eight episodes, with the rest of the season arriving in 2027. The new show officially continues the franchise’s main storyline and brings together the entire original Hollywood cast.
The animated series takes place 12 years after the events of Ted 2. A grown-up John Bennett and the living teddy bear Ted now live next door to each other. The characters have started families and settled into boring jobs, but age and new household responsibilities don’t stop them from regularly dragging each other into questionable adventures. This time, the inseparable friends’ main troubles will revolve around a marriage crisis and raising children.
The Star Cast Returns and the Advantages of Animation
The biggest surprise for fans is the involvement of the original actors, according to the platform’s official blog. Seth MacFarlane will once again voice Ted, Mark Wahlberg returns as John, Amanda Seyfried will play his wife Sam again, and Jessica Barth will reprise the role of Tami-Lynn. New voices are also joining the regular cast: Kyle Mooney and Liz Richman.
Switching to an animated format was an elegant solution to the studio’s production problems. The hand-drawn visuals, handled by Rough Draft Studios, allowed the creators to reunite the star cast without having to find windows in the actors’ packed filming schedules or spend huge budgets integrating a complex 3D model of the bear into live-action footage.

This project continues the story of the adult characters and is not conceptually connected to the recent live-action series Ted from the same Peacock, which served as a prequel and followed John’s teenage years in the 1990s. Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, who worked closely with franchise creator Seth MacFarlane, served as showrunners on the animated follow-up.
