OVR Technology Unveils Omara Scent Display for Gaming: 16 Scents and 200ms Response Time

OVR Technology has entered the final production stage of its Omara Scent Display gaming aroma display. Priced at $649, the device syncs scents with on-screen gameplay events, delivering the required aroma in under 200 milliseconds.

Weighing 85 grams, the gadget is similar in size to an earbud charging case. It can be placed on a desk next to a monitor or mounted directly onto a VR headset. Connectivity is handled via USB or Bluetooth Low Energy. The device supports Windows 11+, macOS 12+, Android, and iOS, with Unreal Engine and Unity plugins available for integrating scents into games.

Inside the chassis is a replaceable cartridge with 16 base scents, including pine forest, sea air, flowers, damp soil after rain, and smoke. The device can mix up to three components simultaneously to create complex aromas. A directional micro-dispersion system delivers scent directly toward the player’s face, preventing the entire room from filling with odors and dissipating particles in under 500 milliseconds.

Game support, battery life, and release window

A single cartridge lasts for 3,000 triggers per channel, providing between 60 and 120 hours of gameplay (replacement cartridges will cost $20–40). The built-in battery offers up to 2 hours of runtime, with a full charge taking about 60 minutes.

OVR Technology is partnering with over 30 game studios and is already developing official scent profiles and mods for Minecraft and Stardew Valley.

According to information on Kickstarter, pre-orders for Omara are open at $649, with initial shipments scheduled for late 2026.
