Postal 2 Returns After 24 Years: Cult Shooter Remake Built on Unity 6 Launching in Early 2027

Running With Scissors, in collaboration with Team Beef and Flat2VR Studios, is working on Postal 2 Redux—a deep technical reimagining of the controversial 2003 satirical shooter. As reported by IGN, the project successfully secured its required funding on Kickstarter in just 24 hours, with launch scheduled for Q1 2027 on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

The timeline was adjusted: Running With Scissors’ official roadmap originally targeted a late 2026 release, but a comprehensive asset overhaul required extra time for polishing.

Seamless World, New AI, and Destruction Physics

The developers emphasize that Postal 2 Redux is not a cosmetic remaster, but a full port of the game to the Unity 6 engine.

According to the description on the game’s Steam page, the project features an impressive list of improvements:

  • Seamless city: Paradise locations will be combined into a single streaming map, completely eliminating archaic loading screens between districts.
  • Advanced NPC intelligence: pedestrians respond more realistically to the Dude’s erratic behavior and gunfire, while police respond faster to the chaos.
  • Physics and environment: features improved ragdoll effects, physically interactive interior objects, and destructible props in stores and offices.
  • Updated Champ the dog: the four-legged companion gets new animations—players can pet him, bring him along on missions, or use him as an absurd weapon.

Split Versions: Standard Redux and Standalone VR Game

The developers specifically note the separation of the projects. Postal 2 Redux is being developed for standard monitors and consoles (PC, PS4, PS5), while a standalone title, Postal 2 VR, is being built simultaneously for virtual reality headsets on Meta Quest, PS VR2, and SteamVR platforms.

Both versions share a common technical foundation, but will be released as two separate titles. A potential release of the shooter on Xbox and Nintendo consoles remains open and is being considered by the developers for future updates.
