Shrek 2 Remaster Achievements Leak on Steam: Cult 2004 Action Game Prepares for Return

A hidden project set in the Shrek universe has been discovered in Steam’s database, highly likely to be an official remaster or re-release of the 2004 action-adventure game Shrek 2. An unnamed app with technical ID App ID 2523740 suddenly revealed a full list of 45 achievements, almost frame-by-frame replicating the levels and mechanics of the classic title.
Far Far Away Locations and Fiona Mini-Games
The leak occurred following an API outage on Valve’s platform, which opened access to private achievement databases. As tracked by achievement aggregator Exophase, the wording of the achievements rules out an entirely new game—the list strictly mirrors the structure of Shrek 2.
The list features familiar locations from the original: Shrek’s Swamp, Spooky Forest, Jack and Jill’s Farm, Far Far Away, and the Fairy Godmother’s potion factory. Direct gameplay references are also present: the Black Bird Pie award requires hitting all 12 birds during Fiona’s solo stage, while the Hero Needed achievement requires perfect completion of the Hero Time bonus sections for each of the four characters.
According to listings on SteamDB, the hidden app entry was created back in the summer of 2023, but localized trophies and associated metadata were uploaded to the servers only on September 9.
Massive Valve Server Glitch and Nostalgia for a Classic
The Shrek reveal was part of a larger data leak from Valve’s store. According to Wccftech, a system error exposed achievements for several unannounced titles at once, including projects based on Dune, Sonic, and other well-known franchises.
The original console version of Shrek 2 launched in 2004 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube under Activision, remembered by players for its dynamic co-op gameplay, character switching, and dark humor (studio Beenox later ported this version to PC under the subtitle Team Action).
Rightsholders have not yet made an official announcement: the store page lacks a final poster, release date, and price tag. However, the appearance of a detailed achievement list in the Steam database traditionally indicates that the project has already passed certification and is nearing an official reveal.
