Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed in an official letter to shareholders that a sequel to the action game Hogwarts Legacy is in development. According to Dexerto, the follow-up from Avalanche Software is being built on Unreal Engine 5 and will introduce several new gameplay mechanics.

The move to Unreal Engine 5 will enable Nanite technology for high-detail rendering of Hogwarts’ architecture and Lumen for dynamic real-time lighting, where reflections from spells like Lumos or Incendio realistically bounce off armor and stone walls.

Gameplay Innovations: Quidditch, Reputation, and Co-op

The second installment will offer a major expansion of gameplay features:

  • Reputation system and house points: Your actions affect how students and professors react. Sneaking into the Restricted Section at night or using Dark Magic will result in point deductions and risk losing the House Cup;
  • In-game Quidditch: The sequel introduces a full sports discipline with position selection (Seeker, Beater, Chaser, or Keeper), updated flight physics, and broom customization;
  • Seamless co-op: You can tackle story dungeons, combine spells in duels, and explore the map in a party of 2 to 4 players.

Expanded Map and Story

The game’s map will extend beyond the grounds of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. Diagon Alley will be added as a key trading hub for customizing robes, buying ingredients and wands, along with a multi-level Ministry of Magic building.

The story picks up right after the events of the first game: the protagonist returns to the school of witchcraft and wizardry for their sixth year. This lets players keep previously learned spells from the start and move on to mastering more complex and dangerous magic.
