Lexus unveils eighth-generation ES sedan: ditching gas engines, adding EVs, and moving production to Japan

Lexus has announced the specifications and pricing for the eighth-generation 2027 model year ES sedan. Built on the K-Platform Architecture, the model has completely abandoned traditional internal combustion engines in favor of hybrids and electric vehicles, with production moving from the U.S. to Japan.
Electric ES 350e and ES 500e variants
The all-electric sedan (BEV) lineup features a 74.7 kWh battery with support for DC fast charging up to 150 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes.
The electric vehicles are available in two versions:
- ES 350e (FWD): front-wheel drive, single electric motor with 221 hp. EPA-estimated range is up to 494 km (307 miles);
- ES 500e (AWD): all-wheel drive, dual-motor setup with a combined 338 hp. Acceleration to 97 km/h takes 5.1 seconds, with a range of 444 km (276 miles).

ES 350h hybrid and interior features
The ES 350h hybrid variant is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a sixth-generation powertrain with a total output of 244 hp. The model is offered with either front-wheel drive or e-AWD with a separate electric motor on the rear axle. The average fuel consumption for the front-wheel-drive version is 5.1 L/100 km.
The interior features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch Lexus Interface multimedia screen, and the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 suite. Hidden Switch touch-sensitive climate controls with haptic feedback are integrated directly into the leather dashboard trim and illuminate when the vehicle is started. The Luxury trim offers infrared heaters for front passengers’ legs, while the optional Executive package adds rear seats with massage, ventilation, and power-adjustable leg rests.

Production of the sedan has been moved to the Toyota Motor Kyushu plant in Japan, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.
