Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to Premiere in the First Half of 2027 — Filming Is Already Complete

HBO has narrowed down the return window for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Casey Bloys, head of HBO and HBO Max, said the show’s second season will arrive in the first half of 2027. The network has not yet announced a precise premiere date.

The follow-up will land roughly a year after Season 1, which premiered on January 18, 2026. HBO renewed the series before its premiere and initially slated Season 2 for 2027. Now the release window has narrowed to the first six months of the year.

Filming on the new season has already wrapped. Peter Claffey, who plays Dunk, announced the end of production in August. The shoot took place in several locations, including the Canary Islands, where the crew had to contend with floods — especially ironic given that the new season’s events unfold during a severe drought.

Dunk and Egg Get Drawn Into a New Conflict

Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword, the second of George R. R. Martin’s tales about Dunk and Egg. After the events of the Ashford tourney, the hedge knight and his squire enter the service of Ser Eustace Osgrey and find themselves at the center of a conflict with Lady Rohanne Webber, known as the Red Widow.

Showrunner Ira Parker describes the new story as a situation in which Dunk “gets into politics.” This time the focus is less on the grand court intrigues of the Targaryens and more on a local standoff between landowners, old grievances and a fight over water.

Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell return in the lead roles. New cast members this season include Lucy Boynton as Rohanne Webber, Peter Mullan as Ser Eustace Osgrey and Babou Ceesay as Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield.

Claffey himself has said the follow-up will be sadder and more personal, and that Dunk’s new conflict will prove a very different kind of test compared with the events of Season 1.

HBO has yet to release a Season 2 trailer or announce the exact episode count. Still, the compact format of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms lets the show produce new seasons far faster than the sprawling House of the Dragon, so an annual schedule for this corner of the universe looks realistic.
