WARDOGS Sells 3 Million Copies in Two Weeks as Devs Prep Season 2

British studio BULKHEAD and publisher Team17 have reported the first successes of their large-scale military shooter WARDOGS. A little over two weeks after launching in Steam Early Access, the game has passed the 3 million copies sold mark. Sales momentum points to consistently strong interest: on its September 10 release day the game had sold 1.25 million copies, by mid-month that figure had grown to two million, and now it has cleared another milestone.
At the same time, WARDOGS’ peak concurrent player count has settled at 400,000. For the multiplayer shooter market, that’s an outstanding start, especially given the fierce competition in the genre.
Economy, three factions and the “Battlefield killer” label
WARDOGS’ gameplay revolves around 100-player battles split into three independent teams rather than two. Players fight for control of dynamic zones across sprawling maps. The project’s key feature is its mix of infantry combat, heavy vehicle handling, destructible environments and a deep in-game economy.
Every life, fighters buy their gear again with money earned through team actions: from reviving allies and building fortified bases to delivering supplies by truck. Earnings and progress carry over between matches, letting players build up capital and call in powerful armored vehicles at critical moments.
Given the scale of the action, the abundance of vehicles and the ability to wipe buildings off the map, the press often calls the game a “Battlefield killer.” BULKHEAD itself, however, doesn’t use that label, positioning the project more as a tactical sandbox at the intersection of arcade and hardcore simulation, where teamwork decides the outcome of a fight.

Season 2 launch and Early Access plans
Riding that commercial success, the developers have announced a content update coming soon. Season 2 is set to launch on October 15, 2026. The studio has already posted a short teaser in the Steam community, but specific details — new maps, weapons or vehicles — won’t be revealed until next week.
The rapid rise has earned the shooter a nomination at the Golden Joystick Awards 2026 in the Best Early Access Game category. The developers, however, have no plans to leave Early Access yet. Development in its current format will continue for one to two years — during which BULKHEAD intends to expand the arsenal, add new vehicle types, refine the progression system and balance the economy based on player feedback.
