HBO Drops Teaser for the ‘Lanterns’ Finale — Episode 8 Arrives October 4

HBO has released a short teaser for the final episode of Lanterns‘ first season. The eighth episode is titled “Dirt and Stars” and premieres October 4 on HBO and HBO Max in the US.

The series follows Green Lantern Corps veteran Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and rookie Lantern John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. The heroes initially investigated a murder in rural America, but by the finale the story had fully gone cosmic and tied into Hal’s past and Sinestro’s.

The finale is set to answer the season’s central mystery

The new clip picks up after the seventh episode, “The Jordan Boys’ Legacy,” in which John and Hal learned new details about Jordan’s past and picked up Sinestro’s trail.

The teaser places particular emphasis on fear, which ties directly into the mythology of the Yellow Lanterns in DC comics. HBO has not yet revealed how far the show will take that storyline in its first season.

The clip also features Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion. The character has already made his debut in the new DC cinematic universe and previously appeared in the series itself. DC officially confirmed Fillion’s involvement in Lanterns.

Sinestro is played by Ulrich Thomsen. By the finale, his story becomes one of the key threads in the overall conflict, though HBO is keeping details of the last episode under wraps.

The show’s creators wrote the finale

Lanterns’ first season consists of eight episodes and premiered August 16.

The series was created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. Mundy serves as showrunner, and the same trio co-wrote both the pilot and the finale, “Dirt and Stars.”

The project is part of the new DC Studios cinematic universe and is connected to its other films and series through shared characters, including Guy Gardner.

A second season has not been officially ordered yet

HBO and DC Studios have not yet announced a second season of Lanterns.

Work on a possible continuation is already underway, however. Chris Mundy and Christopher Cantwell are developing a potential story for season two, and the creators have previously confirmed that a writers room exists.

That does not mean production on a continuation has started: the final decision rests with HBO and DC Studios.

The final episode of season one, “Dirt and Stars,” premieres October 4. Because of time zones, it will become available in some countries as early as October 5.
