Netflix Adds All Seasons of Cult Comedy Party Down Starring Adam Scott Following Low-Ratings Cancellation

On September 22, the US Netflix library added all three seasons of the comedy series Party Down. All 26 episodes of the show, which originally aired on Starz, are now available to stream. For the platform, the addition offers a great opportunity to introduce a broader audience to a title long considered a hidden gem of American comedy that brought together numerous future stars of the genre.
The plot follows a group of struggling Hollywood actors, writers, and musicians forced to work side jobs at the Party Down catering company. The main character, played by Adam Scott, is former actor Henry Pollard, whose career fell apart after a single successful role in a beer commercial. Joining him are Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan, and Jane Lynch. Online headlines often suggest that Paul Rudd is one of the show’s top stars. However, as Tom’s Guide notes, the actor served exclusively as a co-creator and executive producer, never actually appearing on screen.
Ratings Slump and a Comeback a Decade Later
The series initially premiered in 2009. Despite critical acclaim from television reviewers, the project suffered from catastrophically low viewership. The season two finale drew only about 74,000 viewers, leading Starz executives to pull the plug.
The show could have easily remained forgotten were it not for a surprise revival. Thirteen years later, in 2023, the cable network brought the comedy back for a six-episode third season, reuniting nearly the entire original cast. Jennifer Garner, Zoë Chao, and Tyrel Jackson Williams joined the familiar ensemble.
Beyond the core cast, the series is known for an impressive lineup of guest stars, with Kristen Bell, Jennifer Coolidge, J.K. Simmons, and Steve Guttenberg all making appearances at various parties.
Regional Streaming Restrictions
Although the series made Netflix’s official September lineup, its availability remains strictly limited for now. The arrival of all seasons has been confirmed only for the service’s US catalog. Trying to access the show’s Netflix page from other regions shows a message stating that the title is unavailable in the selected country. The company has not indicated whether Party Down will eventually roll out globally.
