Amazon accidentally leaks new Jason Statham action movie two days before theatrical release: HD rip of ‘Mutiny’ already spreading online

Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service made a rare blunder that could hurt Lionsgate’s theatrical release. On August 19, subscribers found the full 95-minute action movie Mutiny, starring Jason Statham, available to stream for free, even though the film’s official global theatrical premiere is scheduled for August 21, 2026.

According to The Verge, the film was available in the highest quality at no extra charge and remained on the platform for about an hour before viewing was cut off.

Digital master leaks to pirates

Despite the quick takedown, that brief window was enough for a high-definition digital copy to leak. 1080p WEB-DL rips with multi-channel audio quickly spread across pirate sites and trackers.

Unlike typical leaks with unfinished visual effects or camcorder recordings from theaters, users got the finished studio master just before the global release.

Lionsgate holds the theatrical distribution rights, while MadRiver Pictures and Statham’s own production company, Punch Palace Productions, handled production. Amazon has not officially commented on the reasons for the early digital release.

What the film is about and how critics received it

In Mutiny, Statham plays Cole Reed, a former special forces operative turned private bodyguard. When his wealthy employer is killed by hitmen, Reed is framed and becomes the subject of an international manhunt. Trying to clear his name, he ends up on a cargo ship, where he uncovers a vast international conspiracy.

The film was directed by Jean-François Richet, who made the action thriller Plane with Gerard Butler. Statham is joined on screen by Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester.

Despite the leak, early professional reviews have been strong: The Guardian called Mutiny a solid, fast-paced old-school action movie, and The Times’ film critic gave it four stars out of five.
