‘Breeder’ Trailer Debuts: Poodle Breeder Selects Humans for Selective Breeding

Independent Film Company and horror streaming service Shudder have released the debut trailer for the satirical body horror film Breeder. The movie follows a young genetic researcher who visits an isolated ranch seeking funding, only to be captured by a dog breeder who decides to apply selective breeding techniques to humans.
The film’s theatrical premiere is scheduled for October 16, 2026.
A Research Grant and a Eugenic Nightmare on the Ranch
The plot centers on student Russell (Daniel Doheny), who studies gene-editing methods to save a declining bee population. Searching for research funds, he accepts an offer from Patty, an eccentric pedigree poodle breeder played by Dot-Marie Jones (Shannon Beaste from Glee).
Upon arriving at the remote farm, the young man discovers the owner has no interest in bees: she has developed her own eugenics program and plans to use the student as breeding material to continue her daughter’s lineage. After refusing to comply, Russell is held by force, turning the visit into a brutal fight for survival.
A Satire on Breeding and Festival Recognition
According to genre publication Fangoria, debut director Alex Goyette combines elements of claustrophobic thriller, dark comedy, and radical body horror, exploring an obsession with ideal biology.
The film also stars Maddie Phillips (star of the series Gen V), Tanaya Beatty, Paige McGarvin, and Carmen Moore.
As reported by ComingSoon, the project had been in development since 2019 and held its world premiere in the genre section at the Tribeca Film Festival. The 97-minute feature earned an R rating for high levels of screen violence and explicit scenes.
