Daredevil: Born Again to End With Season 3: Insiders Say the Show Is Canceled and the Showrunner Is Leaving

In late September 2026, word broke that Daredevil: Born Again will end after its third season, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2027. The Hollywood Reporter reported the news, citing its own sources and noting that Marvel Studios declined to comment officially. For viewers, the news matters not only because it closes out Matt Murdock’s long arc but also because of the behind-the-scenes shake-up that comes with it: the project has been left without a showrunner right in the middle of postproduction.

Filming on Season 3 wrapped about two months ago, and the footage is now in final editing. But Dario Scardapane, who oversaw production, has left the studio — his contract ran out and Marvel executives decided not to renew it. It is not yet known who will see the final episodes through to the premiere.

The Defenders Reunite in Full

The big event of Season 3 will be a full-scale gathering of the street-level superheroes viewers know from the Netflix streaming era. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock will be joined by Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist), TheWrap confirms. The story will thus close out the character arcs from the classic 2017 miniseries The Defenders.

The original Daredevil ran on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, after which the project was put on hold because Disney was launching its own streaming service. Born Again was made as a direct continuation of the original: Season 1 premiered in 2025, and Season 2 debuted in spring 2026.

Marvel’s TV Division Gets Restructured

Although Marvel has not officially confirmed the show’s cancellation, the reports from major industry outlets fit the company’s new strategy. As TVLine points out, the studio has set a course toward cutting TV budgets and wrapping up bloated storylines.

Daredevil has already been through a major script overhaul in 2023, when executives decided to bring back classic characters instead of completely changing the concept. Ending things with Season 3 lets Marvel close out the broader story of New York’s heroes on a high note and redirect resources toward integrating the characters into future feature-length theatrical blockbusters.
