Night City From a New Angle: Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Third-Person Mod With Custom Animations and Hybrid Camera

Modder CybrDrake has released Immersive Third Person – Best Of Both Worlds for Cyberpunk 2077. Unlike older community mods that simply pushed the camera behind the character’s back and exposed unnatural skeletal movements, the new project delivers a hand-crafted animation set and dynamic camera behavior tailored to gameplay situations.
Hand-Crafted Animations and Fine-Tuned Camera Controls
The main issue with earlier third-person mods stemmed from REDengine’s design: V’s original character rig was built strictly for a first-person perspective, making the mercenary’s movements look cartoonish from the outside. As noted by DSOGaming, CybrDrake focused on overhauling movement physics from the ground up.
According to the project’s description on Nexus Mods, the creator prioritized the female version of V. Custom animations built from scratch include walking, sprinting, landing after jumps, slides, dashes, ladder climbing, swimming, and picking up items. The male variant has only received partial fixes so far, with a full update planned for later.
The camera features smooth rotation, collision handling for narrow doorways and walls, and head tracking toward active points of interest. Players can save up to five custom view profiles with varying zoom distances and over-the-shoulder offset angles.
A Hybrid Approach Instead of Broken Cutscenes
The mod intentionally avoids turning the entire game into a dedicated third-person action title. Instead, the developer implemented seamless perspective switching:
- Third-person view remains active during casual exploration and street walking;
- The camera automatically switches back to the standard first-person view during gunfights, melee combat, vehicle entry, terminal interactions, and cinematic dialogue scenes;
- Once the action sequence concludes, the perspective seamlessly returns to the chosen over-the-shoulder angle.
This approach preserves CD Projekt RED’s intended cinematic direction and precise gunplay mechanics while allowing players to admire their character’s custom outfits while exploring.
Finally, a new Third-Person Perspective mod for Cyberpunk 2077! 🔥

This is easily the best TPP mod I've seen for the game so far.

The mod is currently in beta, so the creator notes potential visual quirks and recommends starting a new game to prevent save file conflicts. Running it requires the Phantom Liberty expansion and a standard suite of modding utilities, including Cyber Engine Tweaks, RED4ext, ArchiveXL, and Codeware.
