S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Cost of Hope DLC Launches August 20 Alongside Patch 2.0

The first major story expansion, Cost of Hope, for the action game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to release on August 20, 2026. The DLC will launch simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Free Update 2.0 and DLC Access

On the day the expansion launches, access to the new content will depend on the edition of the game:

• Access to the Cost of Hope DLC: the story expansion will unlock automatically only for owners of the Ultimate Edition and Season Pass. Players with the base version of the game will need to purchase it separately.
• Free Update 2.0: all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 owners will receive a free technical update that moves the game to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5 to improve stability and graphics.
• Bug fixes: Patch 2.0 will also fix bugs and improve optimization in the main campaign for all players.

Story and Features of the Cost of Hope DLC

The expansion’s story runs parallel to the main campaign:

• Main character: The protagonist Skif receives a mysterious signal on his PDA, which triggers a separate quest chain.
• Faction conflict: The story focuses on the breakdown of a fragile truce and a new phase of confrontation between Duty and Freedom.
• Familiar characters: The expansion will feature veteran Zulu (known from Call of Pripyat) and the character Mavka.
• New territories: The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, as well as locations in the West and the “Iron Forest,” will be available for exploration.
• Gameplay: The expansion offers dozens of hours of non-linear gameplay, where player choices affect the story’s development and the fates of characters.

Free Update 2.0

On the day of the DLC’s release, all owners of the base version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will receive the free 2.0 update:

• Transition to Unreal Engine 5: Using the latest version of the engine is intended to improve overall stability and enhance the graphical component.
• Content patch: The update includes bug fixes and will add additional content for the main game.
