Samsung Prepares Galaxy SmartTag 3: New UWB Tracker Passes Certification in US and South Korea

Samsung is finalizing its next-generation item tracker, Galaxy SmartTag 3. Carrying model number EI-T5900, the device has passed official regulatory certification in South Korea and the US, confirming it retains Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for pinpoint item tracking.

Official Name Confirmed in FCC Database

Unlike early unofficial leaks, the device’s appearance in regulatory filings officially reveals its commercial positioning.

According to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database, the South Korean tech giant registered model EI-T5900 (FCC ID: A3LEIT5900) directly under the commercial name Galaxy Smart Tag3. The certification model number continues the lineup’s naming scheme: the original SmartTag used EI-T5300, while the SmartTag2 released in 2023 carried EI-T5600.

Retaining UWB for Precise Spatial Tracking

FCC documentation confirms that the tracker operates on a 7987.2 MHz frequency as an Ultra Wideband (UWB) transmitter alongside a standard low-power 2.4 GHz Bluetooth module.

The UWB antenna enables Samsung’s Compass View spatial search feature within the SmartThings Find ecosystem: a compatible Galaxy smartphone displays a precise directional arrow and the exact distance remaining to lost keys, a backpack, or luggage rather than just a general search radius.

New Form Factor: Compact Squircle Replaces Elongated Oval

According to SamMobile, the new tracker will feature a major redesign:

• the elongated shape of the SmartTag2 with its large metal cutout for a carabiner is being replaced with a “squircle” format (a square with rounded corners);
• a multi-function physical button sits in the center of the body for smart home routines and finding a paired smartphone;
• due to its more compact dimensions, attaching the tag to a keyring or a pet collar may require a separate silicone loop case.

Internal photos of the disassembled body and user manuals in the FCC database are temporarily protected by a non-disclosure agreement.

First Lineup Refresh in Three Years

The previous generation debuted in a Samsung announcement in October 2023. The SmartTag2 featured IP67 water resistance, up to 500–700 days of battery life from a standard CR2032 battery in power saving mode, and a direct Bluetooth range of up to 120 meters.

As reported by 9to5Google citing tipster Roland Quandt, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S26 FE during Samsung’s fall launch window. Passing regulatory certifications in the US and South Korea indicates that the device is in its final preparation stage for retail release.
