Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft: Forever — ‘Classic+’ With New Content Launches November 4

At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment officially unveiled World of Warcraft: Forever, a standalone version of the legendary MMORPG that brings the long-awaited fan concept of “Classic+” to life. The classic 2004-era Azeroth is no longer preserved in amber, instead serving as the foundation for brand-new content. The game is set to launch on November 4, 2026.

Horizontal Progression and a Level 60 Cap

Unlike standard WoW Classic servers that sequentially reproduced legacy expansions like The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, Forever creates an alternate timeline. The story begins in the original “vanilla” era, with character levels capped at 60 for the foreseeable future.

The developers are opting for a horizontal progression model familiar to Old School RuneScape players. Rather than devaluing existing gear with new level caps, the team will focus on expanding the core world:

  • Three brand-new locations and several revamped classic areas will be added to the map;
  • The studio will add thousands of new quests available during both leveling and at max level;
  • New classic-style dungeons and raid complexes will be built for high-level players.

As noted by PC Gamer, Forever is not a remaster: it is a full parallel universe with its own mechanics and balance, distinctly different from modern live retail.

Skyborne Elves, Undead Paladins, and Launch Timeline

The biggest surprise was the overhaul of race restrictions. A new playable race, Skyborne Elves, will debut in the game universe.

According to Windows Central, the developers opened up non-standard class combinations: demonstration materials featured an Undead Forsaken Paladin and an Orc Mage—archetypes that never existed in the original release two decades ago.

As reported by Variety, the studio will host large-scale beta testing ahead of the official launch on November 4. Two decades after its first server debuted, classic Azeroth finally gets its own development path free of world-shattering cataclysms and interplanetary wars.
