OpenAI Releases Official ChatGPT Desktop App for Linux

OpenAI has introduced a preliminary version of the official desktop application ChatGPT for operating systems of the Linux family. According to the data The DecoderThe program combines ChatGPT services, ChatGPT Work and a standalone agent to develop codex in one client.
The client is distributed as .deb and .rpm packages for x64 and ARM64 architectures. Official support is announced for Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44 distributions. The application integrates a built-in browser, support for Chrome extensions and voice control.
At the testing stage, the Linux version does not have a direct computer use feature that allows AI to interact with third-party applications like GIMP. Also at the start, screenshots (Appshots), Record & Replay actions and system voice commands for program management are not available.
Versions of the desktop app for macOS and Windows debuted in July. A new Linux program offers a graphical interface for visually tracking projects, files, and code changes.
