Marvel’s Wolverine Hits PS5 — Scores Come In Notably Lower Than Previous Insomniac Superhero Games

Marvel’s Wolverine, the superhero action game from Insomniac Games, has officially launched on PlayStation 5. The game drew restrainedly positive reviews from the specialist press: at release, its average score on Metacritic sat at 78 out of 100, while on OpenCritic it came in at around 79. That is the most modest result among the studio’s Marvel-licensed projects, though the reviews confirm the new title delivers a solid, meaty action game without forced live-service mechanics.
Mature rating, a 15-hour campaign and debate over the combat
Critics welcomed the team’s decision to move away from a Spider-Man-style open world. As The Verge stresses, instead of the routine clearing of towers, the developers focused on a dense linear adventure that takes between 13 and 20 hours to complete.
Praise went to the uncompromising combat system with its spectacular dismemberment of enemies, the smooth physics of the claws and Liam McIntyre’s performance, which convincingly brings Logan’s grim character to life. From the start, the game offers New Game+, story chapter replay, challenge trials and a photo mode, while PS5 Pro owners get a separate graphics mode with improved ray tracing.
The repetition of the fights is what dragged the scores down. Reviewers at GamesRadar+ gave the game 6 out of 10, pointing to the monotony of encounters toward the finale, while a The Guardian review called the combat mechanics primitive, despite the dramatic script and cinematic cutscenes.

The level of detail, how visceral it can be, the combat is amazing and it’s only the opening. The animation with destruction that is going on in this game @insomniacgames COOKED#MarvelsWolverine #PS5Pro pic.twitter.com/xSIx6xACIf
Full dubbing and platform status
One important detail for Russian-speaking players is the quality of the localization. The PlayStation Store listing confirms the game has full Russian dubbing covering character dialogue and interface elements (the voice-over was prepared for 12 languages in total).
On the official PlayStation site, the game is listed as a PS5 exclusive. Sony has not yet released any information about a possible PC port, so a release on computers should not be expected in the coming months.
The score of 78 falls short of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s 90, but for fans of brutal story-driven slashers, the new title marks the long-awaited return of Wolverine to the format of solo big-budget action games.
