Insomniac’s Venom Game Still in Development, Reliable Insider Refutes Cancellation Rumors

A standalone Venom spin-off from Insomniac Games has not been canceled and is still in development for PlayStation consoles. That’s according to reliable gaming insider NateTheHate, who refuted spring claims made by one of the franchise’s key actors. However, Sony and the developers have yet to officially announce the project.

Insider vs. Miles Morales Actor’s Claims

The new wave of discussion was sparked by the insider’s comment on X. Responding to a follower’s question about the fate of the standalone symbiote action game, NateTheHate wrote: “Based on my latest information, Venom is definitely still in development. When exactly the announcement will happen, I don’t know.” The insider did not disclose any approximate release timeframe or the game’s scope.

The insider’s words directly contradict a statement by Nadji Jeter, the actor who plays Miles Morales. In the spring, during an episode of the Love It Film podcast, the actor said the studio had indeed been working on a story expansion and a standalone game about the antihero, but allegedly canceled development due to the death of Tony Todd, who voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

At the time, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier questioned that version, calling Jeter’s claims inaccurate. Moreover, Tony Todd passed away back in November 2024, so linking the fate of a major studio production to the death of an actor two years prior seemed dubious: in the gaming industry, characters are often recast.

Leaks from the Hack and Team Priorities

The concept of a solo project under the working title Venom Lethal Protector first came to light during the cyberattack on Insomniac Games’ servers in late 2023. Internal documents listed a compact game in the vein of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, bridging the events of the second and third numbered installments of the series.

As Insider Gaming notes, the studio’s key resources are currently focused on finishing Marvel’s Wolverine. Meanwhile, voice actors are often not privy to the management’s long-term plans until they sign contracts for motion capture sessions.

NateTheHate’s information gives hope to symbiote fans, but until Sony releases an official trailer, the standalone Venom game should be viewed as a promising yet unconfirmed project.
