BMW Updates X3 M50 xDrive: Crossover Gets 443-HP Boost and Optional Black Package

In December 2026, BMW will start production of an updated version of its flagship X3 M50 xDrive crossover. The vehicle has undergone two independent changes at once: a technical engine upgrade and the arrival of a new Black Package styling option. Online, these two facts were mistakenly linked, but the automaker stresses that the power increase will be standard on all new X3 M50 xDrive models, not an exclusive perk for buyers of the optional styling package.

For the European market, where emissions rules are growing ever stricter, this is a telling update. Engineers managed not only to fit the heavy vehicle into the stringent upcoming Euro 7 standard but also to noticeably boost its performance figures without compromising its environmental credentials.

A Boosted Straight-Six and Acceleration

Under the hood sits a revised 3.0-liter inline-six M TwinPower Turbo paired with a 48-volt starter-generator (mild hybrid). As stated in BMW’s official press release, the engine’s output has risen by 45 horsepower — from 398 to 443 hp (326 kW).

A classic standing start to 60 mph takes 4.4 seconds. In its official specs, the automaker also lists a figure of 4.1 seconds, but that number comes from the popular US one-foot rollout method, in which timing equipment starts the clock only after the car has covered the first 30 centimeters.

Black Package: Plenty of Alcantara and Dark Trim

The new Black Package styling option is available exclusively on the M50 xDrive variant. Contrary to rumors, the option does not require buyers to paint the entire body black. The package is responsible solely for dark exterior accents: massive 22-inch Polygon 1134 M wheels, gloss brake calipers, darkened M-series badges and lettering with a silver outline.

Inside, the designers focused on matte textures. On the BMW M division’s page, it is specified that the dashboard, door cards, center armrest and wireless charging area are upholstered in black Alcantara Individual suede. The seats get a combination of Alcantara and eco-friendly Veganza leather with contrasting blue stitching, while some physical buttons and switches are made from faceted CraftedClarity glass.

December Changes for Base X3 Models

The production update will also affect the crossover’s lower trims. The entire X3 lineup will get new dashboard trim options, revised stitching, expanded contour lighting for the center console and door handles, and a practical metal protective sill plate in the trunk. The entry-level all-wheel-drive X3 20 xDrive will also be certified to Euro 7 standards starting in December.

The company will reveal the exact price of the Black Package option and the updated price list for the boosted M50 xDrive closer to the start of production at the end of the year.
