Denza readies track-focused Z9 GT hyper-wagon: swan-neck wing, roll cage, and possibly 2,000 hp

Denza, BYD’s premium sub-brand, has been spotted testing an extreme version of the Z9 GT wagon near the Nürburgring. Judging by spy shots from PistonHeads, the five-meter family EV is being transformed into a full-fledged track car.

The prototype, unofficially dubbed Z9 GT Xtreme, features a massive aero package: a deep carbon splitter, large canards on the front bumper, extended side skirts, and a giant adjustable rear wing with swan-neck mounts.

Racing interior and rumors of a 2,000-hp powertrain

As Autoevolution notes, the test car’s interior has been stripped of premium comfort to save weight. Inside, there are racing bucket seats and an integrated roll cage, while the suspension has been lowered for track use and the wheels are lighter.

The main intrigue lies in the powertrain:

  • Base version: The standard all-wheel-drive electric Denza Z9 GT is powered by three motors with a combined output of 1,140 hp (850 kW) and 1,210 Nm, sprinting to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
  • Extreme prototype: According to unofficial reports, the wagon could get the powertrain from the Denza Z Special Edition concept coupe, which features a three-motor P2000+ system producing around 1,970 hp (2,000 PS).

Aiming for a Nürburgring record

The level of downforce and the test location strongly suggest preparations for laps around the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. Carscoops speculates that BYD’s engineers intend to compete for the title of fastest wagon or five-door EV at the Nürburgring.

Official specifications, the final name, and production status of the extreme Z9 GT variant have not yet been disclosed by the automaker.
