Streaming service Apple TV+ may be planning to expand the universe of its sci-fi hit Silo after the main storyline concludes. According to UK insider Sigmund Judge, a new project focusing on the mysterious Silo 40 is currently in development. However, book series author Hugh Howey publicly poured cold water on the rumors, stating he is hearing about the upcoming production for the first time.
Preserved Sets and Disagreement With the Author
As reported by tech outlet 9to5Mac citing Judge, pre-production on the new series could begin before the end of 2026, with casting agencies already searching for talent. The insider points to the condition of the studio sets as key circumstantial evidence: location shooting for season four wrapped back in March, yet the massive multi-level bunker sets at UK soundstages have not been dismantled, which typically indicates plans to reuse them.
However, Apple has not officially confirmed the project, and writer Hugh Howey responded to the rumors on social media with skepticism: “News to me. So probably not true.” The insider countered that the author is bound by a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA), though he has yet to provide concrete evidence of an approved show.
Literary Context of Silo 40 and the Show’s Finale
The concept of Silo 40 itself isn’t pulled out of thin air. Howey is indeed working on a new book trilogy under that title, intended to bridge the events of the novels Wool, Shift, and Dust. The author previously confirmed that the 40th shelter played a major role in the fate of Silos 1 and 18. Meanwhile, he delayed the books’ publication until summer 2027 so plot twists wouldn’t interfere with viewing the TV series.
Meanwhile, the main series is preparing for its conclusion. Apple TV+’s official schedule confirms that the saga’s fourth season will be its last, premiere set for July 9, 2027.
