Samsung May Launch Galaxy S27 Ultra in Two Sizes With Radical Camera Redesign

Samsung is planning a major overhaul of its flagship smartphone lineup. According to leaked engineering CAD drawings, the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra could launch in two body sizes for the first time in the series’ history, featuring a continuous horizontal camera visor and built-in Qi2 magnets.
Introducing two flagship variants will allow Samsung to directly compete with Apple’s Pro and Pro Max tier split.
Two Sizes and a Response to Apple’s Strategy
According to insiders Sonny Dickson and Ice Universe, the company is testing two sizes: a full-size S27 Ultra and a smaller version with roughly a 6.47-inch display (which could also be marketed as the Galaxy S27 Pro). Published schematics already reveal different button placements, confirming the development of two distinct chassis.
Both variants will share full flagship status, advanced optics, and S Pen support, offering buyers a choice between compact and larger form factors without sacrificing features.
Visor Camera Bump and a Shift to Three Sensors
As reported by Android Authority, Samsung intends to drop individual protruding camera rings in favor of a massive camera island stretching across the entire back panel. Meanwhile, the base Galaxy S27 and S27+ models will retain their classic vertical lens layout.
The camera setup itself will be reduced from four to three sensors:
- High-resolution main sensor;
- Ultra-wide module;
- Periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.
Samsung plans to phase out the legacy 10MP 3x telephoto camera. Intermediate zoom between 3x and 5x will be handled by a new 200MP ISOCELL HPC sensor via lossless in-sensor cropping, while the reclaimed internal space will be used to increase battery capacity.
Built-in Qi2 Magnets Under the Rear Cover
According to 9to5Google, schematics of the rear panel clearly show a circular magnetic array surrounding the induction coil. Integrating the Qi2 standard will allow power banks, stands, and wireless chargers to attach directly to the smartphone’s chassis without needing dedicated magnetic cases.
The official announcement of the Galaxy S27 lineup is expected in early 2027, meaning the final design and sensor layout could still undergo minor tweaks before mass production begins.
