Spotify Officially Confirms Removal of AI Tracks From Recommendations, Will Introduce ‘AI Character’ Label

Spotify has officially announced new rules for handling AI-generated content. Following numerous user complaints, the platform will label virtual artists with an “AI character” badge and remove them entirely from personalized recommendation algorithms.

The company said the decision was based on listener feedback: users don’t like discovering that a track they enjoyed was generated by artificial intelligence. Once the rules take effect, such music will only be findable through direct search or by deliberately following an artist’s profile.

The changes are set to launch in mid-September. By that deadline, creators who use AI to make music or media files must notify the moderation team on their own.

To catch violators, Spotify will use its own automated tools for analyzing audio streams and visual content. In the next phase, regular users will also be able to report suspicious tracks.
