Terraria Gets Full Crossplay After 15 Years as Re-Logic Unifies PC, Consoles, and Mobile in Two Phases

Max Ivanov · 01.09.2026 20:21 · 3 min read

Studio Re-Logic and developers from DR Studios have officially confirmed details for the long-awaited platform unification in the iconic 2D sandbox game Terraria. 15 years after its release, the game will receive seamless cross-platform multiplayer across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

The rollout of this large-scale network infrastructure will take place in two sequential phases, starting with the upcoming major update 1.4.6.

Phase One in Patch 1.4.6: Console Integration and IP Connection

The main technical challenge in implementing crossplay stemmed from strict requirements set by platform holders (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo) regarding network security, accounts, and privacy. The developers have completed the legal and architectural approvals, preparing the console versions to operate in a unified network environment.

According to the official State of the Game report, update Terraria 1.4.6 (Phase One) will introduce basic cross-platform connectivity:

  • Local Network (Local): Automatic discovery and connection to sessions within the same home Wi-Fi network (for example, a PC player can join a friend’s world on Xbox or a smartphone without any setup);
  • Remote Servers (Remote): Console players will get an interface to directly enter external IP addresses and ports for dedicated servers where PC users are already playing.

Phase Two: Seamless Connection via Room Join Codes

In the subsequent major network update (Phase Two), the developers aim to completely eliminate the need for manual router configuration, port forwarding, and IP address entry.

According to a detailed breakdown of the network phases, the game will introduce a universal Session ID / Join Code system:

  • the host generates a short alphanumeric room code directly from the pause menu;
  • any player on any supported platform (PC, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, iOS) enters the code in the game client and instantly joins the session over the internet, regardless of NAT type or ISP.

The developers describe this phase as “true crossplay” without technical barriers.

Release Schedule and Version Preparation

According to an update from the Steam game community, the studio will switch to building version 1.4.6 directly once the current stability patches (1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8) launch on consoles and mobile devices.

Crossplay requires 100% codebase synchronization across all devices, so the 1.4.6 release is planned as a simultaneous global launch across all ecosystems. The studio will announce an exact release date after completing certification with platform holders.

Cross-Saves and the Future of the Project

According to the official Terraria Wiki, the developers are currently focused solely on netcode: unified cross-progression (cross-save) and porting tModLoader mods to consoles are not included in the current roadmap.

At Gamescom 2026, Re-Logic and DR Studios held a closed strategy session regarding the franchise’s future. The developers explicitly stated that crossplay will not mark the end of support, but rather the beginning of a new era of content updates for the game, whose player base continues to grow 15 years after launch.
