Legendary British stage, screen, and voice actor Tim Curry has died in Los Angeles at the age of 80. His longtime manager, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed his passing to Variety.
A cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.
Iconic Roles: From Dr. Frank-N-Furter to the Concierge in ‘Home Alone 2’
The actor rose to global fame playing the eccentric scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), which became a midnight movie classic.
In 1990, Tim Curry portrayed the demonic clown Pennywise in the miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s It, establishing the canonical vision of the villain decades before the remake.
Mainstream audiences also knew Curry as Mr. Hector, the suspicious head concierge at New York’s Plaza Hotel in the comedy Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), who fruitlessly tried to catch Kevin McCallister over credit card fraud.
Film Roles, Broadway Stage, and Iconic Voice Work
According to the Los Angeles Times, Curry’s filmography features dozens of memorable character roles, including Wadsworth the butler in the mystery comedy Clue (1985), the Lord of Darkness in Ridley Scott’s fantasy film Legend, and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.
The actor earned three Tony Award nominations for his Broadway roles and won an Emmy Award.
Thanks to his distinctive deep voice, Curry built an extensive career in animation and gaming, voicing Chancellor Palpatine in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Nigel Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys, Premier Cherdenko in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and villains in the Dragon Age franchise.
Life After Stroke
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor suffered a major stroke in 2012 and used a wheelchair in his later years. Despite physical limitations, Curry continued to do voice work, attend fan conventions, and published his memoir Vagabond in 2025.
