Vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker From Witcher 3 Creators Launches Without Denuvo Protection

Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has released its debut role-playing game, The Blood of Dawnwalker. The dark medieval vampire action RPG is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Set in an alternate 14th-century Europe at the height of the plague epidemic, the story follows protagonist Coen, who becomes a Midnighter. By day, he retains his human form and wields a sword, but once night falls, he turns into a vampire with supernatural abilities. After his family is kidnapped, he has exactly 30 in-game days to save his loved ones.

Time as a Resource and Nighttime Hunting

As the developers explain in a mechanics breakdown on the Bandai Namco website, the timer does not tick in real time. Days advance only when completing key story quests, making critical dialogue choices, or learning powerful skills. Players can explore the Unreal Engine 5 open world at their own pace, though seeing every storyline branch and quest in a single 30-day playthrough is impossible.

At night, Coen can run across rooftops, climb walls, and feed on human or animal blood. Players decide how much power to drain from victims, choosing between stealthy survival and eliminating all witnesses.

Critical Reception and DRM-Free Launch

Critics greeted the title warmly, with average aggregator scores hovering around 83–85 out of 100. Reviewers praise the quest variety, thick atmosphere of despair, and detailed world-building, but criticize unpolished combat mechanics and frame rate drops. Early player reviews on Steam are more tempered, sitting at around 70–75% positive.

The publisher opted not to use Denuvo protection. Furthermore, the game launched completely DRM-free on GOG, causing a pirated version to spread online immediately after release. The game does not feature an official Russian localization.
